Library Cards
Library cards were issued to every student. They also serve as a bookmark. These cards should remain with your library book until the book is returned to the library for check in. You cannot check out a book without a library card. If you lose your card, there is a $1.00 fee to get another card.
Permission Slips
All students were given a permission slip at the beginning of the year. If a student does not have a permission slip on file, the student cannot check out books from the library. If another copy of the form is needed, it can be found here on this website.
Check Out Procedure
During the library time, students spend the time looking for books to read and/or reading books in the library. No one leaves the library with a library book during scheduled class specials - all books are processed in the evening and delivered to students' classrooms the following day. Books need to be entered into the system and assigned to the student. Processing includes making sure the book is not currently being requested, that the student has no current checkouts or fines, and that the student has their library card.
Check Out Period
Students can keep books for a total of four weeks. The school weeks are separated into A Week and B Week. Kindergarten, first, and fifth graders check out on A Weeks and second, third, and fourth graders check out on B Weeks. Check out the calendar to see what week we are currently on. Your initial checkout will be for two weeks. You are then able to renew your book for 2 additional weeks, if necessary. If your book is late, you will be charged a penny for each school day it is late. Five weeks after the initial due day, the book will be considered lost and will need to be replaced. You can either pay for a replacement or buy a replacement.
Check In Procedure
Students return their library books during their scheduled library time. If they are absent during their scheduled time, they can drop the book off to the library and place it on the top shelf of the blue cart. They should not place returned books in any other location. Older students are allowed to visit the library during the morning drop-off time (7:00-7:45am) as long as I am in the library. During this time, they can return books, check out books and search the catalog.
